Setting up a school makerspace machine — what would you insist on?

Non-negotiables from running training sessions:

1. A locked material cupboard. Students can only use materials from it. That single rule eliminates the PVC problem entirely.
2. A named responsible adult per session who has done the safety module and knows where the extinguisher is.
3. Machine never runs without a person in the room. Written down, no exceptions, including "it's only a two minute job".
4. One laminated settings card per approved material, on the wall. Students don't invent settings.
5. Extraction checked before each session — a tick sheet, not a vibe.
6. Enclosure interlock never bypassed, ever, for any reason.

Add a job log: name, date, material, settings, duration. Sounds bureaucratic but it teaches process and it's invaluable when something goes wrong and you need to know what happened.
