Six house-number tiles in 200 × 100mm natural slate. Engraved deep, then rubbed white acrylic paint into the engrave and wiped the surface — the number reads from across the street instead of disappearing into grey stone.
Settings
100% power, 1500mm/min, 2 passes, 500 DPI. Slate wants fewer DPI than you'd think; too fine and adjacent lines merge into a flat grey patch instead of a crisp engrave.
Two passes gives enough depth to hold paint. One pass looks fine dry and the paint won't key.
Infill
Cheap white acrylic paint, worked in with a finger, surface wiped with a barely-damp cloth after about two minutes. Sealed with matte outdoor varnish once dry.
Slate variation
Every tile is different. Riven slate has high and low spots that change effective focus across the surface — I lost one tile to a 2mm dip. Choose flat tiles or accept some variation.
