Needed a display that shows 60 pairs of earrings, survives being thrown in a car boot fortnightly, and flat-packs into a tote bag.
Design
Three tiers, slot-together, no fixings. Each tier has 20 pairs of 1.2mm slots for earring hooks. The uprights taper so the whole thing has a slight lean back — earrings hang forward and catch the light.
Assembles in about fifteen seconds and packs to 380 × 260 × 12mm.
Material
4mm birch ply, sanded and finished with two coats of matte varnish so it wipes clean. 3mm was too flexible with a full load, 6mm was heavier than it needed to be.
Slot sizing
The 1.2mm hook slots are the fiddly bit — kerf-compensated, so drawn at 1.05mm and cut to about 1.2mm. Too wide and hooks slide along; too narrow and you can't load it wearing gloves in November.
